Man guilty of indecent assault during sex

Philip Norman Richard Queree, a Jerseyman who was training to be a doctor at the time of the offence in August last year, repeatedly grabbed the woman’s breasts hard and pulled her hair during intercourse, the Magistrate’s Court heard. He is due to be sentenced next month.

The woman made a complaint to police as a result of bruising she suffered to both breasts. She also had difficulty lifting her arm and complained of a painful shoulder.

She decided to report what had happened after having conversations with a friend, her mum and a colleague.

Giving evidence during a trial, the woman repeatedly said that Queree had used ‘excessive force’ and that she had ‘not consented to be being injured’.

The court heard that the pair met on the dating app Tinder and had sex at the end of their second date.

The Magistrate, Bridget Shaw, said that the defendant would be put on the Sex Offenders Register and would have to contact the police to arrange for the formalities to be completed.

Mrs Shaw said that she will produce a written judgment in due course outlining the reasons for her guilty verdict.

The defendant is due to be sentenced on 9 October and Mrs Shaw ordered that a social inquiry report be prepared in time for the sentencing hearing.

Advocate David Steenson, defending Queree, told the JEP after the hearing that his client will be appealing to the Royal Court against Mrs Shaw’s verdict.

During two days of evidence, the court was told that the couple messaged each other on Tinder for a couple of weeks before they met in person. Their first date was two days before the assault on 20 August last year.

The court heard that during sex Queree grabbed at the woman’s breasts ‘really hard’ to the point she started crying and was in pain.

The woman said that after having a shower, she showed Queree a mark and bruising on her left breast.

She said that he was getting dressed to leave at the time and she asked him if they could talk about it because she wanted an explanation.

However, she said he told her: ‘I need to go now and think about what I have done to you.’
