Another Asian hornet nest found in Jersey

Several nests have been discovered in northern and eastern parts of the island this year.

The latest nest was found in a private garden in Wellington Hill. It is due to be destroyed on Tuesday, when the winds are expected to decrease.

Asian hornets, which arrived in Europe more than a decade ago inside a shipment of Chinese pottery, pose a major threat to honey bees. They can eat up to 50 bees a day and have been known to wipe out entire colonies.

Sightings should be reported to j.pinel@gov.je.
