However, the tunnels are open for business, as is the shop, but the incident has also led to the closure of the Nest Art Studio, which is located in the visitor centre.
Operations manager Kathy Bechelet, who discovered the damage this week, said it was unfortunate that some of the facilities would not be open for Battle of Flowers week but there was nothing they do about it.
‘The café will not be open again until the latter part of next week but the shop and the tunnels are open as usual and we are getting plenty of people coming to keep out of the heat,’ she said.
And in line with the Island’s other attractions that have reported higher visitor numbers this summer, Jersey War Tunnels is also benefiting from increased attendance.
‘Our figures are up by eight per cent over last year,’ she said,
The War Tunnels, which were built by the Germans during the Occupation as part of extensive fortification of the Island, reopened in February after a £50,000 refurbishment of the exhibitions in the underground museum complex.
The ticket desk was not affected by the flooding, as it was relocated to the tunnels’ entrance as part of the refurbishment work.
