Charlie, who is five-and-a-half, ran away on Thursday afternoon from the home of friends of his owner Shaida Aziz who were looking after him for a day. He was still missing on Friday morning.

After he ran away, he was seen near La Fregate and then, Ms Aziz said, was struck by a car near the Esplanade. The driver stopped but Charlie ran on.

‘He ran towards Normans and then towards Georgetown. We used to live there until about a week ago so that’s his old haunt. I think he’s tried to make it home and seen I’m not there and just kept going,’ the owner said.

Charlie has also reportedly been seen near Howard Davis Park and even, in the early hours, near Manor Park Road at La Pouquelaye.

‘He’s a rescue dog and he’s very timid, a bit of wuss. He’s five-and-a-half but he’s a puppy really, he’s never grown up,’ Ms Aziz added.

‘I posted on Jersey Dog Forum [on Facebook] and the community response has been amazing. People went out immediately and were looking until the early hours.

‘Charlie’s normally get very good recall, I’ve no idea why he bolted.’

Charlie is wearing a turquoise collar with his name and Ms Aziz’s number inscribed on it. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ms Aziz on 07797750430.
