Two are treated for drug overdoses after hundreds attend a rave at a north coast fort

One man was found unconscious at L’Etacquerel Fort, east of Bouley Bay, at about 8am on Sunday. A witness told the JEP that the man left the scene after being treated by paramedics and was not taken to hospital.

Another 21-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering a suspected drug overdose. He was discharged later that day. An 18-year-old was arrested at the site on suspicion of possessing MDMA and cannabis. He has been released on police bail.

Hundreds of party-goers are believed to have attended the unofficial rave at the fort, which costs hundreds of pounds a night to rent out to large parties. According to the Jersey Heritage website the site is only supposed to accommodate up to 60 people.

One source told the JEP that 30 party-goers were still at the site at 8.24am when the police, paramedics and fire crews arrived. States police sniffer dog Jack was deployed to search the area.

Popular Facebook site Jersey Lifts, which is used by Islanders to arrange rides in exchange for cash, had numerous posts in the early hours of Sunday morning asking for lifts from the area.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘A call was made to the Ambulance Service at about 8.08am and police arrived at about 8.22am. Officers left the scene at 10.27am after speaking to several people who were in attendance and recording various details.’

Jersey Heritage, who manage L’Etacquerel Fort, said they were aware of the trouble and were due to assess the area for damage yesterday evening.

A spokeswoman said: ‘Anyone booking one of our heritage lets must adhere to various terms and conditions, which are designed to ensure respectful use of the sites and to limit any disturbance to neighbours. We are disappointed that, on this occasion, it appears that the people booking L’Etacquerel Fort have breached those terms and conditions.’

The 19th century building can accommodate up to 60 guests and sleep up to 30 in ‘basic accommodation’. It is accessed by a small bridge and has a large main room, garden area and composting toilet.
