Such was the impact of the collision near the JSPCA that pub-goers in The Wellington told police they ‘heard and felt’ the collision at about 7pm.

A 73-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a broken wrist and collarbone. Her 83-year-old passenger suffered cuts to his hands.

The road was closed for more than two hours while debris, which was scattered over a large area, was cleared from the scene.

Meanwhile, officers were also called to an incident on Queen’s Road on Monday morning. A female rider of a 50cc Vespa moped was taken to hospital by ambulance following an accident.

And on Saturday the emergency services were called to another collision on Queen’s Road by the Morrisons store at 11.25am. A collision occurred between a Mitsibushi driven by a 34-year-old man and red Ford Fiesta driven by a 62-year-old woman.

The woman suffered a suspected broken sternum while her 88-year-old passenger suffered a bruised ribs, police say. The road was re-opened less than an hour later.
