We have made big and exciting changes in a short period of time, which have revolutionised the way we work with each other and our clients.

Jonathon Woolf, recently promoted to head of innovation, director, shares more about our innovation journey so far, and what’s next for Saltgate.

WHAT ARE SALTGATE’S MAIN INNOVATION GOALS?

My team and I work to develop and implement best-in-class technology solutions across all areas of our business to ensure continued delivery of service excellence.

Flexibility is a huge part of our approach. We leverage this to build long-term partnerships with our clients, by providing more than just “off-the-shelf” products and services. Our innovation projects enable us to uniquely tailor our offering to each client, their needs and their goals.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO INNOVATE SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY?

Innovation removes functional blockers and operational inefficiencies for our business users and clients.

Not only does innovation improve our service, but it’s integral for security. The finance industry is attractive to criminals, and our commitment to protecting our clients, colleagues and contacts is a huge factor in why we consistently innovate our systems and approach.

Digital transformation drives our culture of continuous self-improvement by promoting a focus on efficiency, user experience, data integrity and security.

WHAT ARE THE PROJECTS WE HAVE COMPLETED ALREADY?

We have built a proprietary payment frontend system (known as STAR – Saltgate Transaction, Accounting & Reconciliation).

This forms the user entry point for our transactional ecosystem by integrating with our static data platform, ERP accounting systems and payment platform, allowing straight-through processing via our own SWIFT bureau. Our largest banking partners have been onboarded into this new ecosystem.

We’re currently building our proprietary client portal. Here, clients can initiate transaction requests, in adherence with their own bespoke approval protocols, and will have increased transparency and real-time tracking of transaction progress.

We recently completed a full migration to Azure Cloud, so our in-house experts have the tools, infrastructure and support to work productively and efficiently. This smooth transition was thanks to a huge effort by every member of the Saltgate team.

WHAT’S THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENTS IN OUR INNOVATION JOURNEY SO FAR?

The launch of STAR last year. It was the first of its kind, and the result of a major project in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across all our operational jurisdictions. It lays a strong foundation for our future innovations around the payment, accounting and reconciliation functions.

WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE FOR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND INNOVATION AT SALTGATE?

We’re focused on ongoing improvement and additional functionality to STAR and our transactional ecosystem. This includes full automation of distribution processes and complex bookkeeping functions.

We’re also gearing up for the live launch of our client portal, streamlining our client communications process and driving transparency.

There are nearly 60 projects in the pipeline across the business. These span diverse areas such as client onboarding, regulatory reporting, central services and data synchronisation.

It’s an exciting time for businesses with the innovation opportunities and capabilities available to us, and Saltgate remains ahead of the curve in this area.
