Police in e-mail row

The row developed over a message sent around police headquarters by deputy chief Lennie Harper which has been interpreted as an instruction not to co-operate with the honoraries.Mr Harper last night sought to allay the fears of 12 chefs de police and other senior members of the parochial forces that they were being sidelined, although he confirmed that force policy had changed in relation to attendance at incidents. The contents of the e-mail have not been released, but Mr Harper said that he had sent it around Rouge Bouillon headquarters as a reaction to public criticism of the force over decisions to send honoraries to some incidents in the place of States officers.’What I said in the e-mail was that when we are called to incidents we should have the courtesy of actually attending them.

Unfortunately that was misrepresented by an officer in one incident as an instruction not to involve the honorary police,’ he said.
