Constable to fight any greenfield site plans

Constable Simon Crowcroft said he would contest any plans to develop Warwick Farm, which is the current home of Jersey Hemp.

Housing Minister Sam Mézec earmarked several sites for future affordable homes, including the former police headquarters at Rouge Bouillon and the Le Bas Centre on St Saviour’s Road. The inclusion of Warwick Farm on the list has been questioned by Mr Crowcroft.

‘I will fight to keep it as a greenfield site as I have done in the past,’ he said, ‘For quite a few years I have said land like this should be kept as a greenfield site.

‘There are brownfield sites that could be built on; I would argue against building on greenfield sites, be it St Helier or St Peter.

He added that he supported Jersey Hemp’s use of the site as a ‘great thing’ for the Island.

Warwick Farm was previously part of a proposal for a nature park that included plans for bike jumps and tracks. Although that plan never came to fruition, the idea is one that the Constable would like to revisit in the future.

Mr Crowcroft added: ‘It is something I will look at again. If you go over to Southampton and Eastleigh, you only need to go a few miles out of the city to go to a nature park. That is something I have pushed for in the past with St Helier, and something I will revisit.’
