Eduard George Gheorghe (37), of Route de St Aubin, is charged in connection with an incident at the Morrisons Daily store in Gloucester Street on Friday evening.
The defendant appeared in court from custody, with the hearing delayed due to the failure to get a Romanian interpreter on a phone line to the court.
Crown Advocate Christopher Baglin, prosecuting, said the incident was too serious to be heard in the Magistrate’s Court and Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris agreed, and sent the matter to the Royal Court.
A bail application was made by Advocate Francesca Pinel, defending. However, the application was refused and Mr Gheorghe was remanded in custody. Mr Harris adjourned the case to 19 February.
