The fifth-tier outfit are without a win since 1 December, having played eight games around two separate ten-day isolation periods for the entire squad.

Eastleigh slipped to 18th following a 3-0 loss to Sutton United on Saturday, with Jerseyman Miley shown a straight red card for a strong challenge in the 34th minute.

‘Everything was going well but over the last month or two, with Covid picking up again, it has been a bit harder,’ said the former Muratti captain.

‘The season started off well for me personally. Before the first ten-day break I was doing well, and then I was just getting going again when we had another one [5 January.

‘We’ve had to isolate for ten days twice in the last month, with one player testing positive each time. Most teams have had it. To be honest, it’s just one of those things – it’s stop-start at the minute but obviously it’s a case of putting everyone’s health first.’

However, despite the recent difficulties, Miley still appreciates how fortunate he and his colleagues have been.

‘Football as a whole has been extremely lucky not to be affected,’ he said. ‘Apart from the isolation periods, which is for people’s safety, we’ve been lucky to be able to carry on.’
