ELECTRIC atmosphere greeted the Jersey Invitational IGA competition, which took place last Sunday in the Queen’s Hall, Fort Regent.

A total of 75 gymnasts represented four visiting clubs from Star-Tastic Academy, Mickleover, HSG Swallows, Fantasy Gymnastics, along with the hosts Regent Gymnastics, and competed throughout the day.

The competition was divided into two sections:

The first competition was LEVELS. This is where the gymnasts have the flexibility to choose their own skills to perform with certain requirements at each level. Regent had 24 gymnasts competing in this section and their excellent performance throughout claimed them 10 overall titles and claiming 30 individual apparatus.

Regent’s most decorated gymnasts, winning medals on all four pieces of apparatus, were:

Arya Gilley (10), competing in level eight, claimed four individual apparatus gold medals and won the all-round title to take gold.

Poppy Culkin (9), in level nine, won the apparatus gold medals for vault, bar and beam, silver on floor and the overall gold medal.

Mylie Hitchmough (12), competing in level seven, held her own in a very challenging group against nine gymnasts from the UK.

Hard work and determination claimed her four apparatus medals and she shone through to take the overall gold medal for this group.

Georgia Irwin (13), claimed two gold, two silvers in the apparatus and finished in second place.

The second competition was the GEM’s Grades. This is where gymnasts perform set routines on four pieces of apparatus, with the final apparatus being flexibility & balance, which tests the gymnasts’ strength and flexibility.

Eight Regent gymnasts competed their GEM routines readiness for their national competition taking place this weekend in Oxfordshire.

The following girls were our gold medal winners:
