Jersey FA name women’s Games squad

Yeovil Town junior Megan Wood, Southampton goalkeeper Sara Luce and Worthing FC midfielder Holly Muirhead are all included in an 18-strong squad picked by joint-coaches Fiona MacKinnon-Fox and Chad Morris, with eight gold medallists from the 2015 NatWest Island Games set to travel to the 2019 Inter Games tournament on the Welsh isle. Six teenagers have been named, including 16-year-old Rozel Rovers midfielder Daisy Jackson.

Luce, who was on the bench for Southampton when they claimed the Southern Region Women’s Premier Division title last month, is joined by fellow shot-stopper Amy Tierney in the squad, while Loughborough student Emma Dempsey is also included.

Jersey Women have been drawn against Isle of Man and Gibraltar in the group stage of the tournament, which begins on Sunday 16 June.

The event has been organised separately from the mainstream Island Games this year, due to a lack of pitches in Gibraltar.

More in Thursday’s JEP.
