Man arrested after woman stabbed outside supermarket

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was stabbed outside a supermarket on a busy main road.

Police were called to reports that a woman had been stabbed outside the Co-op in London Road in Headington, a suburb of Oxford, at about 3.10pm on Tuesday.

Thames Valley Police said the woman, who is in her 20s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

A 30-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Wednesday morning and remains in custody, the force added.

A force spokesman said: “Today, at about 10.40am, Thames Valley Police officers arrested a 30-year-old man from Oxford in connection with the incident which occurred yesterday at about 3.10pm outside Co-Op in London Road.

“He is currently in police custody.

“The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains at this time.

“Her family is being supported by specially trained officers.”

Witnesses should call the police on 101, quoting reference number 784 (12/3).
