A member of the Mont à l’Abbé special gymnastics club, John (16) represented Great Britain in several gymnastics disciplines and was one of 7,000 athletes competing in the Games.The event was declared open by Nelson Mandela at an official ceremony at Croke Park.John, the son of John and Anne Le Seelleur, of St Martin, competed in the disciplines of pommels, vault, floor, parallel bars and rings.His main competition came from two excellent Russian gymnasts who were strong in all disciplines and had considerably more experience at this level of competition than most of the others.John returned to Jersey yesterday evening to be greeted by his proud and delighted family and a crowd of wellwishers.
