It is also feared that all Jersey’s historic and traditional fishing rights to fish in Guernsey’s waters could be lost in the future.According to the Jersey Fishermen’s Association, Guernsey’s politicians are still upset over the Bay of Granville Treaty, which was signed between Jersey and France in 2000, and they are using their soon-to-be introduced licensing scheme as a way of getting ‘revenge’.Deputy Mike Taylor, chairman of the Jersey Fishermen’s Association, said: ‘The livelihood of Jersey fishermen should not suffer in this way.
I would urge as many fishermen as possible to apply for fishing licences, otherwise all out historic fishing rights could disappear in a generation’s time.’A question on the matter is to be asked in the States on Tuesday by St John Deputy Phil Rondel.
