Le Saux explores options

The former England defender flew into Heathrow this morning, leaving his team-mates back in Italy preparing for tonight’s 42,000 sell-out friendly match against Italian giants Lazio.Le Saux (34) said today: ‘At the moment there is nothing; but I do have a few options to explore and I need to sit down and have a long chat with my agent.

There are lots of things to discuss and that’s all I’m prepared to say at the moment.’The merry-go-round at Chelsea hasn’t stopped turning since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich’s £140m takeover a fortnight ago.

Chelsea have already spent £13m on two players while they have offered £17m for Blackburn’s Damien Duff and talks are continuing. The Londoners also want Wayne Bridge from Southampton and speculation in a couple of National newspapers today suggests Chelsea are trying to hurry up their summer spending by offering Le Saux in a part-exchange deal that would seen Bridge move to Stamford Bridge soon.Southampton have been stalling over Bridge’s £7m move but with a ready-made replacement in Le Saux, worth £500,000, it could finally clinch the deal between the two clubs. And Sky Sports News last night ran a story stating that Premiership new boys Portsmouth are also interested in the former England defender who left St Paul’s Football Club as an 18-year-old.Portsmouth was where Le Saux made his first-team debut on 13 May 1989.
