Members voted by 39 to six to reject the proposition but Senator Syvret contended his reasons for provoking the debate was not to win but to publicly air the issues raised.That was after a war of words conducted during the debate over the selection of Coolwater Ltd as developer for the multi-million island site contract.Senator Syvret raised questions over the probity of the selection process and warned that the States could face litigation from unsuccessful bidders who might now believe that there had been unfairness in the process.However, Policy and Resources Committee president Senator Frank Walker was angered by the claims.
‘It is appalling that this proposition could be brought on such flimsy evidence,’ he said.
