Gorman leads Island cricket team

Chris Searson, Jersey’s team manager, says that with the uncertainty of the KGV Field playing wicket they have chosen a combination of different types of bowlers in the squad and the starting team will not be chosen until some 30 minutes before the start of the match. The twelve for Guernsey are: Dave Gorman (captain), Matt Hague, Steve Carlyon, Chris Jones, Tony Carlyon, Meeku Patidar, Rob Tewkesbury, Simon Short, Stuart Ramskill, Mark Reynolds, Paul Horton and Mark Saralis.Searson, who selected the dozen with Keith Dennis and Gorman, said: ‘The team will not be chosen until shortly before the game.

There have been high and low scoring matches at the KGV this season and we’ll have a look at the wicket this weekend when the Over-40s play and next week on the day before deciding our line-up.’There are numerous changes to the Jersey team that were beaten at Grainville last season, Guernsey first victory in the series since 1991.Craig Douglas and Peter Gough are unavailable next weekend while Ben Silva has been recovering from an injury.

Ward Jenner, who has skippered both island’s over the years, has failed to make the 12 as he has not hit form in the NatWest Weekend League this season.Gorman returns to the side as skipper after missing all of last season with a back injury.

Gorman has had some good scores with the bat this season including a ton for Caesareans at the KGV Field against Optimists.Pace bowler Mark Saralis’ good form of late has won him a call-up while medium-pacer Mark Reynolds is back after injury and leg-spinner Stuart Ramskill, the Island’s hockey team captain, also makes the squad.
