The Chamber of Commerce’s latest review of business trends paints a gloomy picture, with four out of five firms who responded to the quarterly survey admitting they are pessimistic about the Jersey economy for the next 12 months.Chamber president Bob Hassell said that the results reflected a general uncertainty among businesses in Jersey and he called on the States to provide clarity and answer ‘the many answered questions’ over the Island’s fiscal future.Mr Hassell added, however, that the survey’s findings needed to be treated with some caution, as only 22 per cent of member firms had responded to the questionnaire, but he also said that it contained some good news. Most companies, for instance, said that profits and turnover were expected to be at least the same or better than last year.
