Minier captures bronze in Triple Crown singles

Matt Minier got the Island’s winning sequence off to a fine start by taking a singles bronze following a total pinfall of 1,290, after an average of 215 over six games.

Matt Leonard placed tenth, against competitiors from England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Guernsey, with an average of 205.33.Minier then teamed up with Steve King to take gold in the doubles with Minier excelling with a near perfect game of 300 just missing out by two pins.This game was the tournament’s highest game of 298 and Minier received a silver plate for his effort.

Minier’s three-game series of 743 was also joint high.Minier also took overall bronze at the event and qualified for the Masters where he finished a creditable fourth after the round-robin stages.Jersey’s ladies were also in fine form as Tracey Aubert, June Dransfield and Tracey Rayn won bronze after bowling 1,690 to finish just 40 pins off the gold position.Aubert, Dransfield and Mich and Steph Le Lion then went a step further claiming silver in the team event with a score 2,714.Rayn and Dransfield finished sixth and ninth respectively overall to qualify for the masters.

It was the first time ever that a female bowler qualified for the masters.After the round robin stage Dransfield remained ninth while Ryan slipped to tenth.The ladies team rounded off the weekend by finishing third overall, their highest finish ever, and just one-and-a-half points away from second place.Jersey’s other men bowlers competing in Norwich were Paul Le Louarn, Lee Jarvis and Mike High.Jersey bowling teams will take part in the 15th World Championships in Malaysia next month while at the end of September and the beginning of October Matt Minier and Tracey Aubert will be in action at the 39th AMF Bowling World Cup in Honduras.
