Cricket:CI club championship likely in 2005

A proposed plan moved closer to being established this week after meetings in both islands.JCA official Ron Halliwell said: ‘The feedback from the Jersey meeting was very positive although there are some relatively minor points to discuss and tweak over the next week or so regarding the format.’None of these points would appear to be fundamental issues and it is hoped that by the end of September the working party will have a fully agreed playing format to present to the clubs, after taking full account of the points raised.’Under the proposed format, the two islands’ domestic leagues and knockout competitions would have to be completed by the last Sunday in July under a standardised format.Subsequently, the top four teams from each domestic league would qualify for the championship to be played in August and September, playing in two groups of four and then semi-finals and final. The two teams finishing fifth in the domestic leagues would meet in a one-off match for the CI Minor Club Championship. The CI Club Championship would follow the completion of the island leagues, and be played in August and September.

Probable start is 2005.

All matches to comprise of 45 overs (nine overs per bowler).
