Petition ‘could still halt deal’

Speaking from Portugal today, former Senator Dick Shenton said there was no deal without the Crown’s agreement and he still trusted the Queen to step in to call a halt.

He sent a personal petition to the Queen in mid-September, backed by over 7,000 signatures, asking Her Majesty to inquire into a number of issues related to the deal.’Our hope must be that the Crown as first defendant in the court action will delay signing the agreement until such a time when the arguments are considered and an explanation made to Her Majesty’s loyal subjects with reasons for accepting defeat,’ he said’There is no deal without the Crown’s agreement and I am still waiting for the reply to my petition,’ he said.A spokesman for Government House said today that there has not yet been any response from the Queen to the petition sent to the Privy Council.
