Helen Hatton, deputy director general of the Jersey Financial Services Commission, this week urged the industry to lobby politicians for legislation to bring in new business.
peaking to the Whitely Association of professional business women, Mrs Hatton said although there had been ‘a terrific pace of change’ in the last five years, putting great demands on practitioners, it was now imperative to consider longer-term strategies.
iting several examples, Mrs Hatton explained the impact of the regulatory framework on business success.
For instance, since the Isle of Man introduced insurance legislation it had been able to develop a ‘screamingly successful’ insurance industry, whereas Jersey had ‘a few green shoots’.
n contrast, Jersey had been the first to bring in trust and company law and consequently had a thriving trust industry.
