BBC lose radio auction

And it would appear that last year’s low takings from the Joint Charities Christmas Appeal auction on BBC Radio Jersey was a contributing factor in the decision to change to the commercial radio station.Just over £10,000 was raised last year from the auction, which was run live from 1 pm until 7 pm.

However, the previous year’s total was £26,000 and five years ago over £40,000 was banked. The BBC has run the auction for 20 years and BBC Jersey editor Denzil Dudley said he was disappointed not to be continuing.’We reaffirmed our commitment to the appeal committee but they had made their mind up that they did not want us any more,’ he said.Mr Dudley said that despite the efforts of everyone involved, last year was not as successful as previous years.

‘We did write to the committee suggesting the auction had run its course and came up with some other suggestions but they told us during the summer that they did not want us to continue,’ he said.
