You’ve got enough cash, Battle organisers told

The chairman of the Tourism Board, Deputy Lyndon Farnham, has told the Battle of Flowers Association to take a step back and have a long hard look at themselves.Following a public meeting last night, where the association said they needed more money from tourism, Deputy Farnham said they have enough to survive and need to look to themselves for help.About 100 Islanders attended the meeting, where the general feeling was that more carnival atmosphere and some audience participation was needed to save the Jersey Battle of Flowers. But association chairman Tony Perkins said that if ideas, including bringing over more bands, were to go ahead, the group would need more financial backing from Jersey Tourism. He said: ‘It costs between £8,000 and £10,000 to bring a band over to the Island and we cannot afford that.’The association will now discuss the ideas raised and approach tourism for further funding before looking at finalising any changes in time for their Annual General Meeting on Thursday 13 November.
