Former MoH hits out at ‘paralysed’ government

Dr John Harvey left his post last week to take up a new job as executive director of Havering NHS Primary Care Trust and fired a broadside on his departure at what he described as a ‘malaise’ among senior officers. And he claims that senior officers adopt a ‘defensive’ attitude toward their dealings with politicians on committees.

‘It is important in Jersey that the officers get away from being defensive with the committees.

The dynamic of the whole thing is wrong.

The committee needs to know how to get below the headlines,’ he said.He added that since the introduction of the machinery of government reforms in 2001, the internal workings of government have, to a certain extent, slowed dramatically.
