Les Pas: Petition to the Queen fails

And former Senator Dick Shenton wants to apologise to the 7,892 people who signed his petition calling on Her Majesty to set up an inquiry into the background of the £10m land deal.Mr Shenton said that he has been informed by the UK government’s Department of Constitutional Affairs that as the States had approved the deal with Les Pas Holdings, the Crown would not go against the Island’s wishes.

‘This ended my hopes of achieving a last-minute reprieve and after speaking to the department’s spokesman, in the end I had to accept it,’ he said.Mr Shenton had started the petition in protest at the deal that will see a large parcel of land on the St Helier waterfront handed over to the company for it to develop at least 100 three-bedroom apartments.
