Two stand for Jurat

Mike Wavell and Jean King are both being proposed and will stand for election on 28 October.The position became vacant following the retirement of Jurat Mazel Le Ruez, a Lieut-Bailiff.

Jurat Le Ruez has reached the retirement age of 72 after 16 years in the post.Mr Wavell (56), a former Deputy and president of the Home Affairs Committee, was a States Member for 18 years.

He said: ‘My name will be going forward.

I was approached by a Senator and I have had strong representation.’Mrs King (64), who is vice-chairman of Jersey Hospice Care and has been involved with the charity since it started, said: ‘I can confirm that my name has been proposed, by an advocate, and my name has gone in.

‘Several people approached me and put the idea into my head and I’ve finally agreed to do it.’The closing date for nominations is Monday 20 October.
