Jersey artist’s £5,500 painting stolen

Nick Romeril’s White Banks features sand dunes from the Island and was on display at the East West Gallery in central London near Portobello Road. But instead of feeling upset about his loss, Mr Romeril said it paid him something of a compliment.

‘It’s a funny sensation to know one of my expensive paintings has been stolen,’ said Mr Romeril.

‘It is almost flattering because someone has risked their freedom to obtain something that I have made.’According to gallery officials, a conman showed a great deal of interest in the piece of artwork and made a payment and had the picture delivered to a business address. The cheque eventually bounced and the business address turned out to be bogus.
