Guernsey hit back in fish licence row

He was commenting on the fact that out of 76 applications from Jersey fishermen for a Guernsey fishing licence, only eight had been granted and the rest rejected.A number of Jersey fishermen are now in contact with their lawyers and there is to be a further meeting between Jersey politicians and their Guernsey counterparts soon to try to reach agreement.In response to Deputy Taylor’s comments, the vice-president of the Guernsey Sea Fisheries Committee, Deputy Lyndon Trott, said that the actions of his committee were ‘nothing of the sort’.’The decisions of the committee are based in law and are in full accordance with the ordinance approved unanimously by the States of Guernsey,’ he said, adding that there had been an unfair fishing environment in recent years which the Jersey authorities had been allowed to dominate.Deputy Trott added that any aggrieved fisherman, whether resident in Jersey or anywhere else, had the right of appeal in law.

They have until 12 November to appeal and not until the end of the month, as previously reported.
