Housing propose final cut in qualification time

The qualifying period has been gradually reduced over nearly three years since January 2001 when the States agreed to a qualifying period of 19 years, eventually leading to 15 years.

Since then the House have approved subsequent reductions, the latest to 16 in June this year.In a projet lodged yesterday Housing said, although the proposed reduction would have some effect on housing stock, the committee felt the time was right to achieve the States agreed aim of reducing the period to 15 years.Since the reduction to 16 years, Housing say 131 people have qualified, with 23 buying property, 24 leasing and eight accepted on the States rental waiting list.
