States scrap means testing for Members’ pay

The States yesterday approved the setting up of an independent body to set the level of pay for Island politicians, which was proposed by the Privileges and Procedures Committee.The States also agreed to increase Members’ remuneration to £28,609 in income support, and a further £9,629 in expenses.The scrapping of the means test means that all States Members – regardless of whether they have income from other sources or not – will be able to claim the full amount of £38,238, or will be able to request any figure up to that if they do not want the full amount.Full report in today’s JEP, on sale at 1.15 pm.
