Carol service launches Christmas Appeal ’03

The congregation included representatives of the charity service organisations which help to organise the appeal.Speaking in the course of his address, the Dean, the Very Rev John Seaford, said that it was up to all Islanders to ‘put some money in the pot’ when they passed someone rattling a collection tin, in a bid to exceed the target of £110,000.The chairman of the appeal committee for this year, Mary Osmond, said that the aim of the appeal was the same as it had been over 100 years ago, when it was first started by the Evening Post: to help people for whom Christmas was an extra and unaffordable strain on their finances.
