Call for unity in building efficient bus service

To loud applause from the 50-strong audience at last night’s public meeting at the Town Hall on proposed swingeing cuts to the service, Mr Lewis said Public Services should open round-table discussions with bus operator Connex, his new company, Easylink, the Bus Users Forum and bus drivers.’I ask the committee to get all the people around the table before they make major cuts, to get a proper sustainable strategy for the future,’ he said.It was the second night running that Public Services and Connex had sat impassively as their handling of public transport was lambasted by the public and States Members.

Apart from short statements they declined to answer questions, saying they were there to listen. The committee and its president, Deputy Maurice Dubras, came in for strong criticism, being accused of cowardice over their handling of the proposed cuts.
