Mont de la Rocque scheme is rejected

Mont de la Rocque Holdings Limited wanted to demolish the hotel, overlooking St Aubin’s Harbour, and replace it with 36 flats, a swimming pool and gym facilities.

The plans, which were revisions of proposals submitted in the spring, were the subject of objections from neighbours and St Aubin residents.Assistant Planning director Peter Le Gresley said the Planning and Environment sub-committee were concerned over a number of aspects of the proposed scheme.

In particular they were not happy with the scale and design of the buildings which they felt detracted from the area.Other grounds for refusal included insufficient parking on site and the impact of the proposed new buildings on neighbouring properties.Residents of Mont de la Rocque welcomed the decision as an early Christmas present.Spokeswoman Dr Miriam Noel said they were absolutely delighted but she did not think it was the end of the matter.

She expects revised proposals to be submitted in the New Year.Dr Noel said they were not totally against development on the site, but would prefer it to be confined to the footprint of the existing hotel complex.
