That is the view of the man who is in charge of this year’s special events. On the eve of the 800th anniversary of the foundation of our unique constitutional status as autonomous Crown dependencies, the man charged with the success of the Jersey celebrations, former Senator Nigel Quérée, spoke of his dismay at the lack of confidence in the future.

‘There’s so much to celebrate, and the 1204-2004 events come at a time when it’s so easy to knock the Island and not think about the positive things.

We have a huge amount to be proud of.

It’s such a shame that we can’t celebrate those and come together as a community without somebody finding something to be critical about.’
