Les Amis, the charity which provides the care at Five Oaks, and Health bosses met last week and agreed a way forward.

For many years, the charity has cared for adults with learning difficulties for short periods to give their regular carers a break.

Carl Blackmore, the manager at Les Amis, warned last month that respite services would be withdrawn at the end of March because the charity could no longer afford to offer them.

He added that the loss of respite care would have a massively detrimental effect on families looking after some of the most vulnerable Islanders, and could end up with more people being taken into permanent care.
