Tony O’Neill, chief executive officer of Sandpiper, who took over CI Traders last August, responded immediately to a story in the Jersey Evening Post on Friday – in which environmentalists called for a ban on plastic bags – by contacting Environment Minister Freddie Cohen to ask him to call a meeting about the issue.
Last week the honorary director of the Durrell Wildlife Trust, Lee Durrell, and wildlife photographer Sue Daly made the call after saying that they were shocked at seeing a film made by the BBC natural history unit about the toll plastic bags and other items have taken on wildlife around the Hawaiian Islands.
