Islanders will have to belt up in the back

The States agreed yesterday to force the Transport Minister to introduce legislation that will require passengers to belt up in the back.

Their decision to agree to Deputy Paul Le Claire’s proposition follows a three-year campaign by brain injury charity Headway.

Only two States Members, including Transport Minister Guy de Faye, voted against the new law yesterday, arguing that introducing the law would be ‘extending the arm of the nanny state too far’.
