Centurions still seek double

The Division II champions first bypassed the challenge of Springfield and then Phoenix Knights to book a final against United Banks.

In their first round match, Centurions had a total of 98 for 4 to chase with Springfield’s Peter Canham (32 not out) and Richard Parker (24) top scoring for their side. With the help of Daniel Bertram and Martin Higgins, both 25 not out, as well as Assam’s 24, Centurions reached 100 for 2 to progress to the semis with four wicket win.

Here they faced a tougher test and it was a last-ball triumph, thanks to a six from Jack Waters who remained not out on 35, which ensured Centurions beat League runners-up, Phoenix Knights.

Knights opened and reached 119 for 4 with Simon Varley and Tim Nelson boosting the total with 32 not out and 32 respectively. Centurions replied with Bertram top scoring on 43 and along with Waters, Martin Higgins’ 23 helped them to 121 for 5 to win by one wicket.

Banks came into the semi-finals and defeated Mavericks, who had beaten JJCAII in round one, by 46 runs. Paul Kemp struck 36 not out, helping his side to 91 for 5, and great bowling from Paul Horton (3 for 11) restricted Mavericks’ reply to 45 all out.

The final is on Monday 31 March at 7 pm.
