Island seniors take control

In tricky conditions at the Royal Jersey the home side took the early advantage with the first point coming courtesy of debutants Robbie Messervy and Mick Le Feuvre who sprinted to a 4 and 3 victory over Peter Mayer and Rainer Schimek in under two and a half hours.

Following this early point it was some time before the next matches finished, but they came in quick succession. George Kean and Mike Street earned a point with a 5&4 victory as did the La Moye pairing of Geoff Ramskill and Bart McCarthy, defeating the excellent Dave Warr and Lawrence Graham.

The last two matches were much closer affairs as Terry Smith and Mick Byrne were taken to the penultimate hole by Steve Birkett and Mike King, before winning 2 and 1.

The final match went all the way to the last hole and earned Guernsey their only point of the day with Keith Jeffreys and Ricky Allen defeating Richard Williamson and John O’Neill 2 up.

The ten singles matches started this morning with Jersey aiming to wrap up victory and record their 11th consecutive victory.
