Susan Ann Louis (53), of Midvale Road, was already subject to a restraining order preventing her from contacting the woman after making previous threats to kill last year.
On 10 March this year she sent a Facebook message to the woman saying: ‘Tonight is the night I am going to kill you and your husband.’
She then went to their home and banged on the door, the Magistrate’s Court heard.
Police officers found Louis a short distance away in Aquila Road.
Louis admitted breaching a three-year restraining order imposed by the Magistrate’s Court on 26 October last year after she admitted threatening to kill the woman with a hammer and knife.
On that occasion she was also sentenced to 120 hours of community service and 12 months’ probation.
Updated reports from experts concluded that the defendant was still at high risk of reoffending.
As a result, police legal adviser Susie Sharpe said the prosecution wanted the existing restraining order extended from three years to seven years.
Miss Sharpe said that although no knife was found, when Louis was questioned she told police officers that if she had had a knife, she would have used it.
Louis told police that she was angry with the male victim as he had allegedly assaulted her son.
Advocate James Turnbull, defending, said that his client had already spent six weeks in custody on remand.
He said that the defendant had lost a son in a car accident and suffered from emotional issues.
He said that alcohol ‘made her act in a reckless and compulsive way, which she regrets’.
The advocate added: ‘She understands what she did was wrong but does not have the tools to deal with such emotional situations in a proper manner.’
He also said that Louis had completed 30 hours of the 120-hour community service order and that needed to be taken into account.
During sentencing, Magistrate Bridget Shaw said: ‘The whole point of the restraining order was to stop you putting [the woman] in fear.
‘It was also more serous because you were on other court orders at the time. It is made worse because you had previously assaulted someone with a knife.’
Mrs Shaw extended the restraining order to seven years.
