The 24-year-old was driving a white Land Rover Evoque which collided with a green Ford Fiesta on Grande Route de St Martin at midnight on Saturday.

The 66-year-old Fiesta driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and was discharged on Sunday afternoon.

The Land Rover driver was detained at his home in St Saviour shortly after 9.30 am the same day. He was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and report an accident, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and fraudulent use of an insurance disc and was later released on bail.

The road reopened at 11.10 am.

The crash was one of 12 which occurred across the Island during the wet and windy weather on Saturday. The majority are understood to have been weather-related, with one of the accidents happening after a tree fell on a car.
