Round the world cycle: Two weeks in and half way across Europe

Patryk Kucza from St Lawrence set off on 20 September and plans to head east across Europe and Asia before crossing the equator en route to Australia and South America.

The 26-year-old is raising funds and awareness for Durrell’s ‘Rewild the World’ initiative and hopes to visit several of Durrell’s global projects on his trip.

Having already crossed France, Germany and Austria, Mr Kucza was yesterday due to reach Slovenia and pass the 1,000-mile mark. This would represent approximately the half-way point on the European leg of his trip, which is due to finish in Istanbul in mid-October.

Earlier this week, Mr Kucza made a detour into the Dolomites region of Italy to pay respects to his friend Jean-Andre Quemener, a fellow Jerseyman who died in a base-jumping accident on the Sass Pordoi mountain.

Mr Kucza’s route should take him through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Bulgaria before he crosses into Turkey.

After the first two weeks of the trip, the fund-raising side of the project has matched the mileage, with just over £1,000 raised so far for Durrell.

Mr Kucza is providing updates on the trip on his Instagram page @worldtour4durrell.
