Blake prepares for Veteran Games

Staff at Strive have helped Darren Blake get fit for the trip to Israel

DARREN BLAKE will be among a group of British Armed Forces veterans taking part in the Veteran Games in Israel.

Invited to participate by the Rock2Recovery charity, the Islander will travel to Tel Aviv for the event, which is due to be staged from 30 May to 3 June.

Blake, who served in the Blues and Royals Household Cavalry for six years, will be part of a team competing with Israeli veterans.

He will take part in swimming, shooting and a form of CrossFit adapted for different disabilities.

Strive has supported his preparations.

‘A couple of years ago I lost my father, who was a keen sportsman and who I have trained with most of my life,’ said Blake.

‘I lost my motivation to train and the Strive staff have managed to get me fighting fit over a period of time. I’m sure with the help that I have had I will do my best to represent and promote Jersey out in Israel.’

In 2019, the inaugural Games brought together a total of 100 veterans to celebrate the vital role sports and family play in rehabilitation.

The initiative also included the first conference of its kind on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mental health and recovery, featuring leading professionals from both countries.
