Dan Evans will not play at Wimbledon after losing to German Matthias Bachinger in the second round of qualifying.
The 28-year-old was forced to go through pre-qualifying after Wimbledon decided not to give him direct entry into the tournament following his suspension for cocaine use.
Evans won three matches last week to earn a wild card into qualifying and then came through his first match at Roehampton, but was well beaten by Bachinger, ranked 150.
While Evans has understandably been the focus, the sole British player through to the final round of qualifying is his Davis Cup team-mate James Ward, who is working his own way back up the rankings after two years of knee trouble.
The 31-year-old, who reached the third round in 2015, beat America’s Bjorn Fratangelo 6-4 6-4 and will play France’s Benjamin Bonzi for a spot in the main draw.
Raducanu is highly rated and recently won her first senior tournament, and she performed admirably in a 6-4 5-7 6-2 loss to Czech Barbora Stefkova.
Given Britain’s eight leading women will all play in the main tournament, those in qualifying were always likely to face an uphill battle, but it was undoubtedly a disappointment to see all seven lose, while Alex Ward and Lloyd Glasspool joined Evans in going out in the second round of the men’s event.
Unusually, there were three former Wimbledon finalists in the women’s qualifying event.
Not that Bouchard appeared too enamoured with her excursion to Roehampton in a brief interview afterwards.
There was also success for 2010 finalist Vera Zvonareva, who beat Eri Hozumi 6-2 6-3, but Sabine Lisicki, the runner-up to Marion Bartoli in 2013, was beaten 6-4 7-6 (7/3) by Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya.
In the men’s event, meanwhile, Australia’s Bernard Tomic, who was fined last year for unsportsmanlike conduct after saying he was bored during his first-round loss, is through to the final round of qualifying after a 6-2 6-4 win over Tomislav Brkic.
